At The King’s Church, we recognise and take seriously our duty of care to safeguard, protect and create a thriving environment for children, young people, and vulnerable adults in our community.

Our policy sets out how we intend to safeguard children, young people and vulnerable adults. We expect all church officers and workers to abide by this and other relevant policies, and we give training and put in place oversight to ensure this happens.

We follow a safe recruitment process for paid and volunteer workers, including DBS checks.

To ensure we carry out our duty of care, we are committed to the following:

  • Create a safe and caring place for all.

  • Have a named Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) to implement policy and procedures.

  • Safely recruit, train, and support all those with any responsibility for children, young people and vulnerable adults to have the confidence and skills to recognise and respond to abuse.

  • Ensure that there is appropriate insurance cover all activities involving children and adults undertaken in the name of the church.

  • Display in church premises and on our website the details of who to contact if there are safeguarding concerns or support needs.

  • Listen to and take seriously all those who disclose abuse.

  • Take steps to protect children and adults when a safeguarding concern of any kind arises, including notifying statutory agencies immediately.

  • Offer support to victims / survivors of abuse, regardless of the type of abuse, whenever or wherever it occurred.

  • Maintain good links with the statutory childcare authorities and other organisations.

  • Follow advice from the DSO, support and manage the safe involvement of any member of the church community who may pose a risk to children and adults, whilst maintaining appropriate confidentiality and the safety of all parties.

  • Ensure that procedures and risk assessments are in place for all activities and that these are reviewed annually.
